Lectures ...

Today, we heard a great lecture by Prof. U.R. Ananthamurthy (who blogs in Kannada and English here) on "1000 years of Kannada language and literature". Prof. Ananthamurthy is spending three months in our Institute as a Sundararajan Visiting Professor, and is scheduled to give a few more lectures (including one in Kannada). His next lecture is going to be particularly interesting: it is on his own creative work!

Tomorrow, we are in for a lecture by Martin Rees on "21st century science: Cosmic perspectives and terrestrial challenges".

On Tuesday, we are going to listen to Prof. Robert Aumann (Wikipedia entry, New School entry) on "War and Peace". You might want to read a short profile that appeared in today's ET.

    Abi,

Good to know that URA is at IISc. I am curious about the Sundararajan Vist. Prof. What sort of a fellowship it is? (that invites a littérateur like URA to IISC).

His topic seems to be interesting? Is the audio/video available anywhere?

Venkat: The Sundararajan Visiting Chair is meant for short term visits by experts in humanities, arts and social sciences -- in other words, areas in which our Institute does not have a presence! IISc has hosted people like Romila Thapar and Ramachandra Guha since the Chair's establishment about five years ago.

No, there's no audio or video of Ananthamurthy's talk. Sorry!
