Education in India: Fact of the day

India has thirteen "Institutions of National Importance". Among them, you will find places like the seven IITs (Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mumbai, Chennai, Guwahati and Roorkee).

Also among them is Dakshina Bharti Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai.

The govt. list is outdated and poorly compiled. Please refer to my article in "New IITs: A report card".

    Here is the excerpt:

"By definition, all IITs and NITs are INIs. There are over 40 INIs in the field of science and technology (including IISc, IITs, INIs, NITIE, ISI, ISM-Dhanbad, and several other scientific and research institutes)."
