RTI exemptions

You too, Delhi Metro?

For all the popular acclaim received by the RTI Act and the transparency it promises, some of the most high-profile public authorities — including the Supreme Court, UPSC, CBI and Delhi Metro — have sought exemption from its purview.

The website of the Central Information Commission is here. In an admirable move, the Commission has a lot of stuff about its own functioning on its website. For example, the minutes of its meetings. Check out the minutes of the latest meeting; the very first item they discussed was this:

The Commission directed the Secretary to contact the Chief Engineer, CPWD to see that a toilet is constructed in the new premises allotted for use by IC (K). If the CPWD could get the work done by nomination rather than tender the work can be expedited by the CPWD.
