Avenue Road of academia

I have always wondered about how Bangalore got a street named 'Avenue Road'. A similar thing in academia would be an 'Institute University'. Bhopal apparently has National Law Institute University, which is ranked at No. 4 in India Today's rankings of law colleges. Bangalore has another one which comes close: National Law School of India University. Don't these names sound odd?

  1. It is interesting that you mentioned the term Institute University. In Hyderabad we have, in a place called Ameerpet, a cluster of buildings that have computer training institutes. When you enter the lane, you are simply overwhelmed by the number of banners you see there, and they usually block out the sun unless it is directly overhead. My first reaction on seeing that place was that it should have been called the Ameerpet Computer Institute University!

  2. There's an Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

How about "Professor Dr. XYZ Sir"? This was an actual email addressed to a faculty (not by me)!
