Nandigram protest at Bangalore

Dhimant and friends staged a street play as a part of yesterday's protest against the horrible violence unleashed in Nandigram by CPI(M) goons. He has some pics from that event. Unsurprisingly, there was no report in the newspaper that Rahul said good bye to because of its atrocious coverage of (and its biased editorial on) this issue. [Update: I was wrong. The Hindu did publish a story on the protest on MG Road, Bangalore. Thanks to commenter Arka for the pointer.]

Outlook's story on CPI(M)'s "recapture" of Nandigram is here. Over at Countercurrents, there's a revealing comparison of Narendra Modi and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee (pdf; link via Bhaskar, whose own take is here).

Interestingly, while the left front "seeks" investments and wants creation of SEZs, it so conveniently forgets that their government had invested a huge sum of money in Nandigram for - guess what - irrigation.

A friend of mine who is from bengal tells that Nandigram happens to be one of the best irrigated areas in the state, and crores of the taxpayers money in making canals and improving the irrigation system. Strange it is that the people seeking investments from industries so conveniently forget the amount of money they themselves put in there. It could, of course be that since its the taxpayer's money and not something from their own pockets they give a damn about it.

Well, actually I am surprised that the newspaper mentioned in your post did not cover the event. We did have a reporter from them who asked us various questions. However, there was no mention in today's paper or on their website.

dhionlyone -- very likely the Bangalore office did want to cover it, but it was vetoed from higher up.

Though I've stopped buying the Hindu, I keep seeing these links to articles there. Here's another one, and this one includes a virtual roll call of the Indian left -- Prabhat Patnaik, Jayati Ghosh, Irfan Habib etc. And they protest (as Ram did in his editorial) the expulsion of CPI(M)-supporting villagers some months ago. Fine, but what was the CPI(M) state government doing about that? Where was the state machinery? Why resort to armed cadres?

The whole affair proves the point that, to communists, there is no difference between party and state; it shows up the lie, refuted all over the world and now refuted here, that communists care about the common people; and it totally and throughly exposes The Hindu's moral bankruptcy, as well as that of much of the Indian left (I'm happy to note that this doesn't include Outlook).

Thanks for posting on recent autrocities by the Left-needs as much coverage in the blogosphere as we can muster!

PUCL site has a lot of coverage on this issue.

Used to read and respect Hindu, and still have friends who do. Didn't ever fully believe several other bloggers at NI when they ranted against it.

But really opened my eyes with this one. Frightening is the only way I can describe the bias.

Hardly seems worth reading it now, even as a balancer. Goodbye Hindu indeed.

    regards,
