The 101st batch of students entering our Institute today includes some 80+ students joining the four-year undergraduate degree program -- believed to be the first in India -- in the sciences.
That's great. I wish they let PhD students be TAs and get some teaching experience. Exams/Quiz should be based on open notes/books/mind. They can bring as many books as they want from the library! That will improve the standard/quality of education.

Not the first. Gauhati University introduced a 4 year BS programme in 2010. See http://www.gauhati.ac.in/home/bsbtech/bsbtech.html
