A proud day for ISRO, and yes, India. The Hindu's headline appears understated: "India Leaves Its Footprints on Moon."
ISRO's press release on this achievement puts it better : "Indian Tricolour Placed on the Moon on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Birthday."

ReplyDeleteWhy this obession with the Gandhi family? Tomorrow, if an Indian scientist-politician wins the Nobel prize, I would not be surprised if he says that he will accept it on Nehru's birthday, Indira Gandhi's birthday, Sonia's birthday...
The press release also says

ReplyDeleteAlso in comment 1, someone has called its hard landing and termination of function as unfortunate but the press release does not mention the word unfortunate. I think this was not designed to be a soft landing probe.
