Niket on Invocation Nonsense. He's bugged -- and so am I -- by invocations at the beginning of pretty much every event. Will someone consign these things to where they really belong: in religious events?

Guru points us to Seth's post that frames blogs as a vehicle for gossip. He also reminds me of my own post where I have a bunch of links to some psychological research on gossip and its uses.
Not 'a' vehicle, that's probably its only use, wasting time and making people feel very self-important.
ReplyDeleteBlogs are mostly useless, except for the ones that report actions people take, and give guidance for others to replicate the same actions. Examples would be cooking blogs, and blogs that track someone's mission to go green (such as pointreturn). The rest of the linking back and forth and commenting is just a phenomenal waste of time. Bloghorea, as The Economist aptly terms it.
What is worse than being forced to sit through an Invocation at the beginning of every event?
