An IIT in Himachal Pradesh?

Yes. And a Central University, too!

Himachal Pradesh is the fourth in the queue for new IITs, after Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar.

  1. This is among the total 8 new IITs being planned. They are:

-IITs at Andhra pradesh, Bihar an Rajsthan-being implemented

-IITs at Gujarat, Kerala and Orissa announced earlier but kept on hold due to state assembly elections

-IIT at Himachal Pradesh (state assembly election is coming up)

    -8th IIT at J &K/north-eastern states, etc?

According to recent Business Standard reprt, govt. is considering one more IIT at place where are very low number of engineering colleges, such as J&K, north-eastern states (including Nagaland & Mizoram).

It is doubtful if the institute will attract quality teachers/students.

  2. Yogesh,

How did you get the information that the location of 3 of the 8 new IITs are going to be in Gujarat, Kerala, and Orissa?

(As far as I know, only the ones at Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and later, also Himachal Pradesh, have been disclosed, but not the location of the other four.)

Can you provide a link to the site?
