Vijaysree Venkatraman has an op-ed in the Hindu about some of the beneficiaries in India of MIT's Open CourseWare, which "provides those with Internet connectivity free access to some 1600 courses taught at the 142-year-old campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts." Here's an appreciative comment, attributed to a high school student:
“The day I become a big man I will give MIT a million dollars for this.”
I had been using MIT OCW material for EECS and they are excellent.At the same time we too have some very good lecture material on electronics by our own IITM lecturers (http://www.ee.iitm.ac.in/~nagendra/videolectures/doku.php?id=start)

ReplyDeleteJust read NYT's Walter Lewin profile. Your "attributed to a high school student" in this piece makes the quote & the source seem dubious.
The NYT did better with:
“Hi, Prof. Lewin!!” a fan who identified himself as a 17-year-old from China ,wrote. “I love your inspiring lectures and I love MIT!!!”
A fan who said he was a physics teacher from Iraq gushed: “You are now my Scientific Father. In spite of the bad occupation and war against my lovely IRAQ, you made me love USA because you are there and MIT is there.”
So I guess you have a point but all of them were entries in the same file which I had the privilege to go through :-)
