Higher Ed News of the Day

In a development widely seen as God's last ditch attempt to restore religious faith among IIT faculty and students, Mr. Kapil Sibal was moved out of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Quick-gun reviews of Sibal's tenure at HRD ministry can be found here and here.

  1. Dear Professor Abi,

God has much better things to do with his time. As you probably know from my job description, all this is completely my doing. It took a month in the Himalayas and living inside a termite mound, sitting in the lotus position to accomplish this as a boon from Lord Brahma. But, as you know, he always attaches a condition to the boons gives out.

He said, "I cannot eliminate your suffering. So, while I take Sibal away, thou shalt be given a small pain to substitute for the bigger one. And a pompous pain it shall be!"

I hope you have heard that Shashi Tharoor is the new minister of state for HRD?

  2. Come on Abi. IITs are too small a system to have implications on who become minister and who does not.

  3. :-) Agree with Dheeraj Sir , IIT - even combined them all - doesn't have annual budget that will impact the Ministry - something like 2G, 3G etc...
