Frontline on Perelman

Frontline has articles on Perelman, the Poincaré conjecture, and the Fields Medal. R. Ramachandran is the author of all of them, with the one on the Poincaré conjecture being co-authored by T. Jayaraman of the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai.

1 comment:

  1. The second article says that the first major attack on Poincare conjecture was by Alfred Whitehead. It was by J.H.C. Whitehead a nephiew of Alfred North Whilehead. A.N. W. and Russell colloborated on Prinipia Mathematica. J.H.C. was born in Madras and after his first failed attempt did a lot of work on the foundations of Combinatorial Topology some of which were used in Stallings' proof in the higher dimensional case.
